Why Is TeamoRouter So Cheap? 10 Things Hong Kong Devs Should Know Before Using Claude or GPT Through It

TeamoRouter is a routing, metering and billing layer for large language models. Top up a US-dollar wallet, create a key starting sk-teamo-, point your tools at https://api.teamorouter.cn and you're off. It speaks Anthropic Messages, OpenAI Chat Completions and Responses, and Gemini's native format, so Claude, GPT, Gemini, DeepSeek and GLM all run on one key and one bill.

It's run by Teamo HK Limited in Kowloon, and the terms were last updated on 20 October 2026. The terms spell out that it isn't the model provider; it just forwards your requests to official APIs or authorised distribution channels and charges you by usage. You need to be 18 or over.

OpenAI's list of supported countries and territories doesn't include Hong Kong, and it says using or offering its services outside the list can get an account blocked or suspended. Anthropic's list doesn't include Hong Kong either, and it doesn't support use by people located in an unsupported region, or by organisations incorporated or headquartered there.

TeamoRouter's terms also tell you to follow the upstream providers' usage policies. So using Claude or GPT through TeamoRouter while you're in Hong Kong is exactly what the model providers don't allow, and if a provider shuts the relevant channel, the service can drop at any time.

Prices per million tokens on 24 October 2026: Claude Opus 4.8 at US$1.33 input and US$6.65 output (list US$5 and US$25); Claude Sonnet 5 at US$0.50 and US$2.52 (list US$3 and US$15); GPT-5.6 Sol at US$0.53 and US$3.18 (list US$5 and US$30); Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview at US$0.29 and US$1.73 (list US$2 and US$12).

Burn 2 million input tokens and 200,000 output tokens on Claude Opus 4.8 in a day: Anthropic's list price is US$15 (about HK$117 at US$1 to HK$7.8), and TeamoRouter charges US$3.99 (about HK$31). If 1.5 million of those input tokens are cache hits, it's about HK$64 against HK$17, before cache writes. A US$50 top-up (about HK$390) lasts roughly twelve days.

TeamoRouter gives three reasons: providers that pass its quality checks compete for every request, enterprise-scale volume deals, and investor subsidies it calls a limited-time boost. The site lists cloud platforms like AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex AI and Azure among its routes, and says it kicks out grey suppliers running on shared subscription accounts.

But you never find out which channel actually answered you. It promises the model you pick is the model you get, never swapped or downgraded, and you simply can't verify that from outside. The discount is a subsidised price that reprices hourly with upstream costs, so it can change any time.

Top-ups come in US$10, US$20, US$50 and US$200 packs, or any amount from US$5, paid through Stripe. The wallet runs in US dollars, and any local-currency price on the payment page is just for reference; the company on your receipt may be an affiliate. No subscription.

Credit you buy never expires. Used credit isn't refundable, but you can ask for unused bought credit back via the email address in the terms, refunded to your original payment method minus non-refundable fees. Bonus credit, like first top-up extras and referral rewards, has no cash value, can't be refunded and can expire.

The privacy policy says its request-trace system keeps your request and response content, plus the model, token counts, API key identifier and IP address, for troubleshooting, routing-quality analysis and support. It holds them as long as it thinks necessary and deletes them earlier if you ask. It doesn't train models on them or sell them.

Main servers and storage are in Hong Kong, on clouds including Tencent Cloud; content-delivery edge nodes are spread around, including mainland China and the US; and the website runs Microsoft, Google and Baidu analytics. As a Hong Kong company it has to follow the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, but your content also goes to whichever upstream channel handles the request, under that provider's terms.

You have to follow the upstream providers' usage policies (Anthropic and OpenAI included), you can't resell it, and checking whether outputs are right is on you. Break the rules and it can throttle, suspend or close your account; close it for fraud or abuse and any bonus credit is gone.

The marketing mentions a 99.98% routing SLA, but the terms provide the service "as is" with no general uptime commitment; only separately signed enterprise deals get an SLA. Liability is capped at what you paid in the 12 months before something goes wrong, so don't park too much money in there.

Give each tool its own key, set a spending cap in your client, and run a short test against the billing before going all in. Models ending in -free, like deepseek-flash-free, cost nothing but are capped at 200 requests per model per day, and they share a daily allowance across the whole platform.

Fast mode bills at twice the list price, and cache-write glitches in Claude Code and Codex get up to 80% of the related charge back. There's no mobile app or app-store rating, just a desktop client and a Discord group, and independent user reviews were thin on 24 October 2026, so test small and check the billing yourself.

It's a fit for personal projects, open source and experiments where saving money matters more than where your data sits or the providers' regional rules, with top-ups you wouldn't miss. Skip it for client or boss code, anything with login credentials or personal data, regulated work, or anything that needs a contractual uptime commitment.
