Is DBS Treasures worth it? The HK$1m bar, the HK$53,800 welcome taken apart, and 10 things to know before you join
DBS Treasures wants a million dollars and shouts up to HK$53,800, but parking cash alone gets you HK$3,300. We break it all down: how the rewards stack, when they land, the HK$300 monthly fee, deposit protection and what app users say.

Best for
Hong Kongers with a spare million who want a big bank as their main base and haven't used any DBS product in the past 18 months (a DBS credit card doesn't count).
The Treasures bar is a million dollars in assets, and deposits, time deposits, shares and funds all count; new joiners also skip the HK$300 monthly fee for the first 12 months. The HK$53,800 headline looks great, but pull it apart and HK$49,500 of it needs more than five million in investment products, ten million of shares moved in and a big life policy. Park a million in cash and what you actually get is the HK$3,000 New Funds Reward plus the HK$300 Wealth Management Reward. Put that million in a three-month time deposit at 2.80% and 92 days pays roughly HK$7,058, so about HK$10,358 with the rewards. If you were going to switch banks anyway, joining with our code H0UQW68U is a solid move; shifting big money or buying investments and insurance you don't need just for the welcome is not worth getting carried away over.
Pros
- Cash, time deposits, shares and funds all count towards the HK$1m bar
- No HK$300 monthly fee for your first 12 months
- Just holding a million gets you HK$3,000
- Your own relationship manager, plus Treasures Centres in Hong Kong and five other places
- Hit the balance and your DBS credit card annual fee is waived
- Covered by deposit protection, up to HK$800,000 per person
Watch-outs
- Getting the full HK$53,800 takes five million in investments, ten million of shares moved over and a big policy
- Rewards don't land until February to April 2027, and you still need to be a Treasures customer then
- Close within 3 months and you pay HK$500 and hand the rewards back
- Once the waiver ends, dropping below a million costs HK$300 a month
- App sign-up is for Hong Kong permanent residents only; everyone else goes to a branch
- The app gets plenty of stick for log-in trouble and post-update errors

Thing 1: HK$53,800 is six rewards added together
Join between 1 October and 31 December 2026 and the welcome goes up to HK$53,800, but that's just the caps of six rewards stacked up: HK$300 Wealth Management Reward, HK$3,000 New Funds Reward, HK$1,000 Investment Product Take-up Reward, up to HK$22,500 Investment Product Balance Reward, HK$7,000 Insurance Product Balance Reward and up to HK$20,000 Securities Transfer-in Reward.
The last three are the big ones. The HK$22,500 needs more than five million in designated investment products on the last day of the counting period (equity-linked products, structured notes of two years or more, funds and bonds; money market funds, certificates of deposit, IPOs and retail bonds don't count). The HK$7,000 means buying a Manulife life plan at a branch, with a single premium from HK$2.5 million or a first-year annualised premium from HK$250,000. The HK$20,000 means moving ten million of shares in (HK$400 for every HK$200,000). Those three alone make HK$49,500.
Thing 2: just parking a million in cash, what do you get?
Say you join in October with the referral code and put the whole HK$1,000,000 into a three-month Hong Kong dollar online time deposit. From 20 October 2026, DBS pays 2.80% on three-month new-funds deposits (from HK$50,000), so 92 days earns about HK$7,058 (HK$1,000,000 × 2.8% × 92/365).
Time deposits count towards your Total Relationship Balance, so the HK$3,000 New Funds Reward is still yours; join through the app, log in once a month, open a Wealth Management Account and do the Financial Needs Analysis for another HK$300. That's about HK$10,358 all in, meaning the rewards add roughly 1.3% a year over those 92 days.
Want another HK$1,000? The cheapest way is one share purchase of HK$10,000 or more through the Wealth Management Account: new customers get online brokerage refunded (capped at HK$8,000, paid back by 30 April 2027), but price swings and levies like stamp duty are on you. October joiners can also use e$aver: put HK$500,000 to under two million of new funds in a multi-currency savings account for an extra 3.1% a year on top of the basic rate until 31 December, quota limited, with interest paid by 31 March 2027. e$aver runs month by month, so check the current edition before you join.
Thing 3: how is the million counted?
Your Total Relationship Balance is everything you hold with DBS, alone or jointly: Hong Kong dollar, renminbi and foreign currency deposits (time deposits included), currency-linked investments, plus the market value of local and overseas shares, funds, bonds, paper gold and other structured products. All in time deposits? That passes too.
The welcome's basic requirement looks at your monthly balance, and premiums paid on an eligible life policy can count as an Insurance Amount. The monthly fee uses a three-month average instead: add up each day's balance and divide by the days in those three months, with a new customer's first month counted from joining day to month end.
Thing 4: what if you fall below a million?
If your three-month average dips below HK$1,000,000, it's HK$300 a month. Fourth-quarter joiners get 12 months off: join in October and you're covered until September 2027, with November and December joiners pushed back a month each.
Close the account within 3 months of joining and the bank takes a HK$500 handling charge plus whatever rewards it paid. The upside: keep a three-month average of a million and your DBS credit card annual fee is waived. FX, shares, funds and insurance all have their own charges and spreads, so ask your relationship manager for the fee sheet before you trade.
Thing 5: how safe is the money?
DBS Bank (Hong Kong) is a licensed bank on the HKMA register and a Deposit Protection Scheme member, covering up to HK$800,000 per person per bank; time deposits over five years, structured deposits and every investment product are not covered.
So a million sitting in cash leaves around HK$200,000 above the cover. Shares, funds, bonds and paper gold can go up or down; life insurance is underwritten by Manulife with DBS only acting as agent, so your premiums also carry Manulife's credit risk.
Thing 6: when does the money arrive?
Counting starts on day 7 after you join: October joiners count to 31 December 2026 and get paid in February 2027; November joiners count to 31 January 2027 and get paid in March; December joiners count to 28 February and get paid in April. It goes into your current account, or your savings account if you don't have one.
You must still be a Treasures customer whenever each reward is paid, so leave the million where it is until the cash lands. The transfer-in reward reaches your Wealth Management Account by 30 April 2027, and moving any shares out on or before that date kills it; the insurance reward needs the policy still in force on the set date and is paid after the cooling-off period.
Thing 7: what do you get as a customer?
Every customer gets a dedicated Treasures relationship manager, backed by investment, treasury and insurance specialists. Flash the Treasures card to use Treasures Centres in Hong Kong, Singapore, India, mainland China, Taiwan and Indonesia, jump the queue at DBS branches overseas, and pull out up to US$5,000 in emergency cash at those centres.
Day to day it's all in the DBS digibank HK app: trade Hong Kong, US and other markets, buy funds and swap currencies in real time; there's also a 24-hour Treasures hotline on (852) 2961 2338. You're auto-enrolled in My Treasures Reward, though some perks need a certain tier or balance.
Thing 8: are the investment and insurance rewards worth chasing?
If you were already planning to move shares over from another bank or broker, or had a big life policy in mind anyway, picking up the transfer-in and insurance rewards along the way makes sense; just keep the moved shares put until after 30 April 2027.
But buying five million of structured products or funds for HK$22,500, or signing up for a policy with years of premiums for HK$7,000, can easily cost more than the reward. Equity-linked products, structured notes and some funds are complex products, aren't principal-protected and aren't covered by deposit protection.
Thing 9: who can use our referral code?
The referral programme is for people who join between 1 October and 31 December 2026 and haven't used any DBS product or service in the 18 months before joining (a DBS credit card is fine). Opening through the DBS digibank HK app needs you to be 18 or over and a Hong Kong permanent resident, and not a US resident, citizen or Green Card holder; anyone else books a branch appointment. Have your ID and a proof of address from the last three months ready.
Start from our link and enter referral code when you open the account in the app; at a branch, hand in the referral form on or before the day you become a customer. If more than one person refers you, the bank only counts the first one it receives, and you can't add the code after you've joined.
Straight up: H0UQW68U is our referral code. Once you join and hit the conditions, DBS pays the referrer HK$1,200 (HK$1,500 if the referrer is a Treasures customer), so we get a cut too.
Thing 10: what do app users say?
On 24 October 2026, DBS digibank HK scored 4.4 on the App Store (Hong Kong) from 16,683 ratings and 4.2 on Google Play from about 7,100 reviews.
The top gripes: getting locked out after forced updates, with Face ID resets or endless SMS passcodes; error pop-ups all the time; a layered interface where transfers and time deposit renewals take ages to find; balances that don't refresh right after a transaction; and way too many promo messages. The praise mostly goes to easy multi-currency handling and good relationship managers.
Who should go for it, who should skip it
Go for it: you have a million-plus in spare cash, want deposits and investments in one big bank, and value a relationship manager and cross-border service; or you were already planning a share transfer or big policy and can grab the larger rewards on the side.
Skip it: you might need that money before early 2027; you'd buy unfamiliar investments or insurance just for the welcome; you've had a DBS account in the past 18 months; or you couldn't keep up the HK$300 monthly fee once the waiver ends.
FAQ
