Avo Hub in one read: who Avo is, what it insures, how the four member tiers earn points, what points are worth on Avo eMall, what it takes to get the referral points with invite code 6F3952891A, when points vanish or get clawed back, when they expire and how long claims take.

Best for

Hong Kong residents who already plan to buy travel, domestic helper, home or Northbound medical cover online and are happy to spend points on Avo eMall cover gift cards or eSIMs.

Avo Hub is Avo Insurance's free membership, and every policy you buy earns points: 2 points per HK$10 of premium at Green, and Avo's own cover gift cards cost 10 points per HK$1, so that's roughly 2% back, or about 1.6% if you take eSIMs. Sign up through our link and invite code 6F3952891A is already filled in; after your first Avo insurance purchase you get extra referral points. Avo doesn't publish how many, though, so please don't buy cover you don't need just for the points. The real question is whether the insurance suits you: travel cover from HK$131 a trip, plus domestic helper, home, outpatient and Northbound medical plans, and rarer stuff like IVF and cosmetic-treatment travel cover. If you were buying this kind of cover anyway, joining through the link is free extra points. If you're only here for points, there isn't much in it.

Pros

  • Free to join, and Avo Hub's Policy Shelf keeps Avo and other insurers' policies in one place, with claim progress alongside
  • Sign up through our link and invite code 6F3952891A is already on the form, nothing to copy
  • Every purchase earns points, renewals included: 2 points per HK$10 of premium at Green, 4, 8 and 12 at Silver, Gold and Diamond, credited the day you pay
  • Points buy Avo's own cover gift cards at 10 points per HK$1, plus eSIMs and merch
  • Your first upgrade to Silver adds 300 bonus points and 4 cover gift cards (GBA, sports and eWallet)
  • Some cover you rarely see elsewhere: IVF treatment travel, cosmetic-treatment travel and Northbound medical

Watch-outs

  • Avo doesn't publish how many referral points the invited member gets, so you find out after you buy
  • Points have no cash value and only work on Avo eMall, at roughly HK$0.08 to HK$0.10 each
  • The referral points need a real insurance purchase, and single-trip travel, IVF and cosmetic-treatment travel policies aren't refundable once issued
  • Points expire after 12 calendar months, and cancelling your membership wipes them all at once
  • Policies bought through some third-party platforms earn nothing, and a refund claws back that purchase's points
  • No mobile app: everything happens in a browser on heyavo.com

Full claim instructions are on the Avo offer page.

Thing 1: Who is Avo?

Avo Insurance is the registered name of Avo Insurance Company Limited (安我保險有限公司). It was authorised by the Insurance Authority under its Fast Track scheme in October 2019 as Hong Kong's first virtual general insurer, it's backed by Asia Insurance, Hillhouse Capital and Two Sigma, and its office is on the 27th floor of 118 Connaught Road West, Sheung Wan.

"Virtual" means fully online: no agents, no branches, and quotes, purchases, payments and claims all happen on heyavo.com. Heads-up: there's no Avo mobile app, and Avo Hub is a browser login too.

Thing 2: What does it insure?

Travel cover (Global Travel Protection) comes as single-trip or annual plans, with annual on Plus only, and single trips start from HK$131. Lite covers medical expenses up to HK$500,000, trip cancellation or curtailment up to HK$25,000 and baggage up to HK$8,000; Plus raises those to HK$1.1 million, HK$50,000 and HK$20,000. Add-ons cover winter sports, water sports, wedding photography and weddings, and amateur competitions, and follow-up treatment within 90 days of getting home is covered. The catches: trips must start and end in Hong Kong, the maximum age is 80, every insured person needs a valid Hong Kong Identity Card, and a single-trip policy isn't refundable once issued.

The rest of the range: owner and tenant home cover (contents and legal liability, with optional extras like computers and games consoles), plus a separate landlord plan; domestic helper cover for overseas or local helpers, for 1 or 2 years; OutpatientGuard, which bundles up to 100 visits in the Quality HealthCare clinic network across general practice, specialists, physiotherapy and Chinese medicine; and Northbound medical, covering hospital stays and surgery at grade-2 or higher public hospitals on the Mainland, with a few online health questions instead of a medical check.

The standouts are IVF treatment travel cover and cosmetic-treatment travel cover, built for treatment trips to Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the Mainland and Singapore. Insured people must be 18 to 76, and these aren't refundable once issued either.

Thing 3: What is Avo Hub?

Avo Hub is Avo's free membership platform for anyone 18 or over: enter your email, a password, a preferred name and your birth month, then the one-time code Avo emails you, and you're in. The terms say you must register with the name on your Hong Kong Identity Card or passport, so add your real name under Settings > Account overview; that's also how the system links your policies automatically.

Inside you get the Policy Shelf for Avo and other insurers' policies, My Claims for claim progress, Avo Wallet for gift cards and offers, and the Earn Rewards task centre, where tasks pay points once you tap Collect. Your birthday month brings extra discounts or a gift too.

Thing 4: How does invite code 6F3952891A work, and when do the points land?

Open Avo's sign-up page through the invite link on this page, enter your email and hit Continue, and the "Referral code (if any)" box on the next screen already shows 6F3952891A. Just check it's there before you register, and if it's blank, type 6F3952891A in yourself. The code can only go in on the sign-up form; once you've registered, Avo Hub has nowhere to add it.

Signing up alone doesn't earn the referral points. Avo's Refer friends page says the referred member earns points once they make their first purchase of an Avo insurance product. Avo doesn't publish how many points that is, so check Avo Rewards after you buy, where the referral entry is labelled "Member Task – Referral". Your safest move is to buy on heyavo.com while signed in to Avo Hub, because the terms say purchases through some third-party platforms earn no points.

Full disclosure: 6F3952891A is our site's invite code, and we receive Avo points too once you make your first purchase.

Six steps from invite link to referral points: 1 open the invite link, enter your email on Avo's sign-up page and tap Continue; 2 on the next screen, check 6F3952891A under "Referral code (if any)", fill in the rest and enter the email OTP; 3 add your real name as on your HKID or passport under Settings > Account overview; 4 while signed in, buy your first Avo insurance product on heyavo.com; 5 purchase points post the day the premium is paid, 2 points per HK$10 at Green; 6 check Avo Rewards for the referral points, listed as "Member Task – Referral". Note: Avo doesn't publish the number of referral points; policies bought on some third-party platforms earn none.

Thing 5: Four tiers, and how points add up

Avo Hub has four tiers, Green, Silver, Gold and Diamond, earning 2, 4, 8 and 12 points per HK$10 of net premium on purchases and renewals, in whole points only. Points land on the day your premium payment goes through, so on monthly payments each month's points arrive as you pay.

Upgrades depend on your premium, insurance types and purchases over 12 months: Silver needs HK$1,000 or more, 1 type and 1 purchase; Gold HK$5,000 or more, 2 types and 2 purchases; Diamond HK$10,000 or more, 2 types and 3 purchases. You move up automatically the day after you qualify, the tier lasts until 31 December, and then it's recalculated on the previous 12 months.

First-time upgrades pay out: 300 points for Silver, 1,000 for Gold and 2,000 for Diamond, plus GBA, sports and eWallet cover gift cards; Green lists 1 GBA and 1 sports cover gift card. Diamond also gets an annual single-trip travel cover upgrade.

Avo Hub's four tiers: Green, Silver, Gold and Diamond. Points per HK$10 of net premium: 2, 4, 8 and 12. Premium in 12 months: HK$0 to 999.9, HK$1,000 or more, HK$5,000 or more, HK$10,000 or more; insurance types: none, 1, 2, 2; purchases: none, 1, 2, 3. First-upgrade extra points: none, 300, 1,000, 2,000; first-upgrade gift cards (GBA / Sports / eWallet cover): 1/1/–, 2/1/1, 4/2/1, 8/4/1. The tier changes the day after you qualify and lasts until 31 December.

Thing 6: What are the points worth?

Points only work on Avo eMall: no cash value, no transfers, no cashing out. The simplest use is Avo's own cover gift cards, all at 10 points per HK$1: GBA Smooth Travel 1-day Lite for 130 points (HK$13), 1-day Plus for 200 (HK$20), a sports cover 1-day pass for 160 (HK$16), eWallet Protection mini for 380 (HK$38), eWallet Protection for 790 (HK$79) and Child Vaccination Protection for 1,180 (HK$118).

eSIMs and merch go less far: a 1 GB Japan eSIM costs 350 points against a HK$28 member price, so HK$0.08 a point; the crossbody phone strap is 900 points or HK$98 for members, about HK$0.11 a point; and most eSIMs sit around HK$0.08. That makes Green's 2 points per HK$10 worth roughly 1.6% to 2% back.

Anything you redeem can't be moved to another account, changed or cancelled, so pick carefully.

What one point is worth: Avo cover gift cards (for example the eWallet Protection gift card, 790 points = HK$79), HK$0.10 a point; crossbody phone strap, 900 points or a HK$98 member price, HK$0.11; Japan eSIM 1 GB, 350 points or HK$28, HK$0.08; most eSIMs, HK$0.08. At Green, 2 points per HK$10 is about 1.6% to 2% back.

Thing 7: Let's run the numbers

Example 1: say you sign up through the link and your first purchase is a HK$131 single-trip travel policy. At Green that's 2 points per HK$10, or 26 points, worth about HK$2.60 in gift cards, plus the referral points (Avo doesn't publish the number). Bear in mind the cheapest gift card, GBA 1-day Lite, costs 130 points, so 26 points alone won't buy anything yet.

Example 2: say your first policy costs HK$1,000 in premium (a domestic helper policy, for example; your real quote decides). That's 200 points at Green, and it already meets Silver's HK$1,000, 1 type and 1 purchase, so the next day you're Silver and, as listed on the membership page, get the 300-point first-upgrade reward. That's 500 points, about HK$50 in Avo gift cards, before the 2 GBA, 1 sports and 1 eWallet cover gift cards and the referral points. Call it roughly 5% back, as long as you use the points within 12 months.

Thing 8: When do you get no points, or lose them?

Buying Avo cover through some third-party platforms earns no points, so read that platform's terms first, and if a policy or purchase is refunded, the points it earned are deducted.

Avo can change the points for any activity or policy at any time, its points and redemption records are final, and it has the last word in a dispute; if the Chinese and English terms differ, the English version wins. Accounts are personal and can't be transferred or shared, and Avo can cancel a membership and its benefits without notice if it spots unusual activity.

Thing 9: When do points expire, and what happens if you leave?

Each batch of points lasts until the last day of the 12th calendar month after you earn it, then it's gone, so plan to use points within a year. The Avo Rewards tab shows your tier, your balance and points about to expire.

You can cancel your membership any time, but every point, reward, offer and bit of task progress disappears on the spot, with no way back; your Policy Shelf data is removed and you can't manage or renew policies through Avo Hub any more. Thinking of leaving? Spend your points first.

Thing 10: Claims, and what using it is like

Claims are fully online: pick your product on the claims page, fill in the claim form and upload the documents. Avo says you'll hear back in 5 to 10 working days, faster when the documents are complete, and you can follow progress in Avo Hub. For questions, call 3572 8222 during office hours or email [email protected].

With no mobile app, there are no App Store or Google Play ratings to go by, and everything runs in a browser, which app lovers may find a bit clunky.

Who should join, and who can skip it

Join if you're buying travel, domestic helper, home, outpatient or Northbound medical cover anyway and like Avo's cover and prices; if you're planning IVF or cosmetic treatment abroad and want cover built for it; or if you'll actually spend points on Avo eMall cover gift cards or eSIMs within a year.

Skip it if you'd only buy insurance for the referral points (the number isn't published, and the cover is what matters), if you only buy insurance through third-party platforms, or if you'd use Avo less than once a year and let points expire.

FAQ

What does invite code 6F3952891A get me?
Sign up as a new Avo Hub member through the link, make your first purchase of an Avo insurance product, and you get extra referral points. Avo doesn't publish the number, so check Avo Rewards after you buy.
Does the link fill in the code for me?
Yes. The "Referral code (if any)" box on the sign-up form shows 6F3952891A; check it before you register, and type it in if it's blank.
I already have an Avo Hub account. Can I still add the code?
The code only goes in on the sign-up form, and Avo Hub has nowhere to add it afterwards. You can ask customer service, but don't count on it.
I've bought Avo insurance before. Do I still count?
The referral points are for the referred member's first purchase, and Avo doesn't say whether earlier buyers (for example, someone who bought without signing in) qualify. If you're counting on the points, ask customer service before you buy.
When do the referral points arrive, and where do I see them?
Avo doesn't publish a timing for the referral points; purchase points land the day your premium is paid. Check Avo Rewards, where the referral entry is "Member Task – Referral", and if it doesn't show up, call 3572 8222 or email [email protected].
What are the points worth?
10 points per HK$1 on Avo cover gift cards, and about HK$0.08 a point on eSIMs. They have no cash value and only work on Avo eMall.
When do points expire?
On the last day of the 12th calendar month after you earn them, and all at once if you cancel your membership.
What happens if I cancel a policy?
If the policy is refunded, its points are deducted, and single-trip travel, IVF and cosmetic-treatment travel policies aren't refundable once issued.
